SEX THERAPY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY: FIVE EMERGING DIRECTIONS
More than half a century has passed since famed sex researchers Masters and Johnson began their pioneering research on sex. Now, a new generation of researchers has identified novel ways to view sexuality and innovative ways to treat sexual problems, including issues with arousal, desire, pain and inability to achieve orgasm. See page 30.
THE LEGACY OF TRAUMA
In research and practice, psychologists are exploring whether and how mass cultural and historical traumas affect future generations. Work with families whose ancestors survived the Holocaust, the cultural displacement of American Indians, the enslavement of African-Americans and other tragedies is uncovering transgenerational effects that are psychological, familial, social, cultural, neurobiological and possibly genetic. See page 36.
